Unlock the Power of Reading: How Fluency Drives Understanding and Engagement
Helping students read fluently is a focus of the efforts of many teachers and specialists. And that's a good thing, because we know from the National Reading Panel Report that fluency is “a critical component of skilled reading.” Fluency standards have been included as an essential foundation skill in most state reading standards. But...do we really understand what fluency is? Do we understand how to determine which students are sufficiently fluent and which need more help? And what kind of support do our students need to become fluent? Let's revisit this topic with an emphasis on the purpose of fluent reading: comprehension and motivation!
Benefit:
- Understand an updated and functional definition of reading fluency (both the fluency components of accuracy, rate, and expression/prosody and fluency mechanics).
- Explore how fluency develops in progressions from the earliest stages of reading acquisition.
- Learn how to correctly interpret the role of oral reading fluency (ORF) assessments for benchmark/screening and progress monitoring.
- Be able to accurately determine a student’s reading fluency level.
- Dig into research-based, effective instructional and intervention strategies to build reading fluency in all students.

Payment Policy for Event Registrations
CESA 6 accepts credit card payments for all event registrations. If you are unable to complete your registration using a credit card, please contact events@cesa6.org for assistance with alternative arrangements.
Group Registrations: If your district would like to register multiple participants and submit one payment for all registrations, please contact events@cesa6.org for assistance.
Please note if an alternative payment is needed, a purchase order must be received before your registration can be confirmed. All registrations must be finalized before the event date.
Alternative payment methods may be approved under the following circumstances:
- Registration fees exceed $1,000
- A specific funding source is being used (e.g., Title funds)
- Your school district requires use of an internal payment process
Participant Cancellations
Cancellations must be submitted in writing by emailing events@cesa6.org. Registrants who cancel at least 14 calendar days prior to the event start date are eligible for a full refund, minus any non-refundable service or material fees. Cancellations received 7 to 13 calendar days before the event will be eligible for a 50% refund. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made within 7 calendar days of the event. Participants who do not attend without prior notice ("no call, no show") will be charged the full event fee.
Event Changes or Cancellations by CESA 6
CESA 6 reserves the right to change or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to low enrollment, presenter availability, or other factors beyond our control. Participants will be notified promptly via email and offered either a full refund or a credit toward a future event.
Registration Transfers
Registrations may be transferred to another individual from the same organization at no additional cost. Please contact us at least 48 hours before the event start date to request a transfer.
